TRIP TO STEINBACH
The really picturesque village of Steinbach is located on the German side of the Ore Mountains, 5 km beyond the former border crossing Mount of St. Sebastian. The village is maintained with the typical German carefulness and it offers a unique attraction which surely will satisfy every visitor.
A group of local enthusiasts here keeps the narrow gauge railway in operation. On the track with the gauge of only 750 mm the little train evokes a cute impression. The real steam locomotive, historic railway carriages, period costumes of railwaymen and small stations with preserved buildings and old signs - everything breathes the atmosphere of the good old days. This small train can overcome about 8 kilometres long stretch through the valley of Přísečnice stream from the village of Steinbach to the village of Jöhstadt in 45 minutes and the return journey is a commonplace. The romantic journey surely will satisfy all travellers especially when they can enjoy the refreshments served on the open platform of the passenger train. The menu contains the grilled specialties, sweets, as well as draft beer and soda. In winter the warmth from the stove inside the carriages further enhances the experience of the journey through the snowy landscape. Finally we can add pleasant information that the tickets may be paid also in Czech crowns and the travel for Czech persons is cheaper than for Germans.
